How do We Get Energy from Water?
From high in the hills, water flows down in rivers and falls its way to the sea. This mass of movement can be used to generate energy to work a machine, with the water falling on the blades of the wheel, making it turn. This wheel is connected to a machine like a mill wheel, grinding corn.
In ancient times, the use of hydraulic or water energy was not used very much. But from the Middle Ages onwards, it increased as well as grinding cereals, it went on to weaving, paper making, metal-working and so on.
Then came the discovery of electricity and water came to be used to produce electrical energy in hydro-electric stations. Dams were built to create artificial lakes from which water fell on the turbines os a station at the foot of a dam.
Like the old water mills, when then water makes the turbines turn, they set the generator working which produces the electricity.

Text  7 is for questions no. 31 to 33
To improve comport and cleanliness at our school, a number of dustbins should be increased.
When we look at classrooms, school corridors and schoolyard, there are papers, mineral water cup, straws, and napkins here and there. The condition of uncleanness and discomfort really hinders learning and teaching environment. Litters thrown carelessly cause disease, especially empty plastic cups or glasses. They can be filled out with water coming from the rain. This can be placed for dengue mosquitoes to spread out. Besides, these rubbish can deteriorate the scene. Well painted wall and green school yard do not mean anything if litters are scattered everywhere.
Anyway I notice that most of the students in our school have responsibilities for their school environment. They put their litters on the proper places. But some are not diligent enough to find the dustbins. The number of dustbins in our school are not enough. More dustbins should be put beside each of steps, outside of the classroom, and some more along the corridors. Probably one dustbin should be in every ten meters. So when students want to throw away their litter, they can find dustbins easily.
When school is equipped with sufficient dustbins, we do not have problems of filth and discomfort any more. Our school will be very clean and become a nice place to study.

31.  What is the writer’s intention? To …….readers to do something good.
A.    inform
B.     explain
C.     describe
D.    entertain
E.     persuade.

32.   What is the writer’s argument on a sufficient number of dustbins?
A.    They can prevent litters.
B.     They can save janitor’s energy.
C.     Students are asked to clean them.
D.    They make school environment neat.
E.     Students can throw garbage away easily.

33.  What is the writer’s suggestion?
A.    To buy more dustbins.
B.     To hire more gardeners.
C.     To use dustbins efficiently.
D.    To ask parents to give more dustbins.
E.     To ask students to clean the schoolyard.

“The Blind Side”
This is not a film which is going to play well outside the United States. It is a true story of how a tough Memphis mother a wealthy family (Sandra Bullock as Leigh Anne Tuohy) befriends a huge, homeless and ill-educated black man (Quinton Aaron as Michael Oher), enabling him ultimately to become a highly successful professional American football player. Of cause, outside the U.S.A,  a few people will have heard of Oher or have much interest in American football. Even the title - a footballing term - is unhelpful. Furthermore, as a narrative, it has the additional problems of being slow and lacking dramatic tension.
Having said all this, it is a find performance by Bullock who has to adopt a Southern accent for a role which sees her playing a much more assertive and less cute character than is usually her wont. It won her the Academy Award for the Best Actress. And, in its own way, the tale is inspirational, showing that with some tender loving care (and in this case a lot of money) the most unlikely and ill-equipped can be enabled to succeed.

34.  What is the film about?
A.    The portrait of American wealthy families.
B.     A more assertive and less cute character.
C.     The life of a famous American football player.
D.    The problem between the poor and the rich in America.
E.     A tough rich woman making friend with a homeless and uneducated black man.

35.  Which of the following is NOT TRUE according to the text?
A.    The story takes place in Memphis.
B.     The film is created based on a true story.
C.     Oher is a successful soccer player.
D.    Outside the U.S.A only a few people have known Oher.
E.     Sandra Bullock won the Academy Award for the Best Actress.

36.  What does the writer think about the story of the film?
A.    It is full of dramatic tension.
B.     It is lack of unexpected scenes.
C.     It conveys too complicated plot.
D.    It is best recommended to watch.
E.     It is inspiring and showing love for others.

Text 9 is for questions no. 37 to 39
Every day we experience traffic congestion, especially in big cities. The streets are filled with old and new vehicles. Many of the new-cars owners use subsidized fuel. Do you agree with this stance?
Some people who agree with the attitude say that the fuel is subsidized by the government for all the Indonesian people. So, everyone is entitled to use it. They also argue that new vehicles taxes are very high. These vehicles taxes can be uses to reduce the burden of the government in providing fuel subsidies. That means balanced, the government subsidizes fuel and new car owners pay high taxes.
On the other hand, there are many people who disagree with that attitude. They argue that the percentage of new-vehicles owners are much higher than that of the old cars. The new-vehicles owners are also considered better off financially compared to that of the old car owners. That means subsidized fuel is more widely used by new cars though the new cars owners are wealthy enough to buy not-subsidized fuel. Thus, the government fuel subsidies are misplaced. Subsidized fuel should only be for old cars owners who are less well off financially.

C.     old car owners pay lower taxes for their cars than they do.
D.    subsidized fuel has no relation to the government’s financial burden.
E.     using high-octane fuel for new cars may disturb the driving convenience.

39.  “So everyone is entitle to use it.” (paragraph 2)
The underlined word it refers to….
A.    a high tax.
B.     a new car.
C.     driving convenience.
D.    the government
E.     subsidized fuel.
